History and Community Impact

A Legacy of Growth. A Commitment to Serving Seniors.

The story of AHEPA 310 Housing is rooted in a long-standing commitment to service, community, and providing quality housing for seniors throughout Mobile and Baldwin Counties.

What began as a vision in the early 1980s has grown into a network of communities that today serve hundreds of residents. Through strategic partnerships and consistent support from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), AHEPA 310 has expanded its impact—creating safe, affordable housing environments designed to serve seniors with dignity.

The Beginning of AHEPA 310 Housing

In 1982, leadership from AHEPA 310 met with Congressman Jack Edwards to begin discussions about bringing federally supported senior housing to the Mobile area.

By June 1983, the first application was submitted to HUD for the development of what would become the foundation of AHEPA 310 Housing.

Later that year, approval was granted for the first community—marking the beginning of a multi-decade effort to expand affordable housing opportunities for seniors across the region.

Honoring the Founding Visionaries

AHEPA 310 Housing was built through the dedication, leadership, and vision of community members committed to expanding affordable senior housing opportunities throughout Mobile and Baldwin Counties.

Building Communities Across the Region

Throughout the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s, AHEPA 310 continued to grow through a series of approved developments across Mobile and Baldwin Counties.

Each new community reflected a continued commitment to meeting the growing need for senior housing:

  • 1983: First community approved (64 units – Mobile)
  • 1987–1991: Expansion into additional Mobile-area locations including Hillcrest Road and Saraland
  • Late 1980s–1990s: Growth into Baldwin County, including Fairhope
  • 1990s–2000s: Continued expansion with multiple developments along Cottage Hill Road and surrounding areas
  • 2000s: New communities established in Bayou La Batre, Theodore, Semmes, and Daphne
  • 2010: Expansion into Citronelle, extending services to additional rural communities

Investment in Affordable Housing

Over the years, AHEPA 310 Housing has been the recipient of significant federal investment to support its mission.

  • Total HUD Investment: Approximately $39.8 million
  • Total Housing Units Developed: 653 apartment units across multiple communities

This investment has allowed AHEPA 310 to create housing environments that are not only affordable, but also safe, well-maintained, and built for long-term sustainability.

Expanding the Mission: Affordable Housing

Beginning in the early stages of development and continuing through each phase of growth, AHEPA 310 has remained focused on one core mission: addressing the need for affordable housing for seniors.

Each property was designed to provide:

  • Independent, apartment-style living
  • Safe and sanitary environments
  • Accessibility for aging residents
  • A sense of community and connection

Through participation in HUD-supported programs, AHEPA 310 has helped ensure that seniors have access to housing that supports both independence and quality of life.

Built on Tradition. Focused on the Future

For decades, AHEPA 310 Housing has remained committed to expanding access to affordable senior housing while strengthening the communities it serves. From its early beginnings to its continued growth, the organization is dedicated to creating opportunities for seniors to live with dignity, independence, and security.
